Return to Coldfire Sequel List
From Paul

For sure - Alan Rickman is nowhere near gorgeous enough to play GT. You can see a list of everyone's suggestions for the part at http://merentha/theatre.asp (yes, mine included). Most of the folks suggested IMHO are too hunky (GT didn't exactly have bulging muscles) or too old.

Our opinions aside, here is what Celia had to say (which is also posted at http://merentha/faq.asp#perfgerald) about who should play GT:

The perfect Gerald Tarrant is, alas, now too old to look the part. I discovered him in the mid-80's when I chanced to turn on a medieval fantasy adventure [Wizards and Warriors - pch] that was so delightfully bad I could not change the channel. A friend had just walked in the house when the evil prince came onto the screen...young, sardonic, cold-hearted, ruthless, majestic, and intensely attractive, with exactly the edge of sarcasm I pictured Gerald Tarrant to have. "What"s on?" my friend asked me, to which I only could respond, with awe in my voice, "I found Gerald Tarrant."

His name is Duncan Regher and alas, his age is showing, but I had my fingers crossed for about ten years. You will see him in many things, most notably the STTNG episode where the doctor goes back to the Scotland-like planet and encounters the ghost that has been possessing her ancestors for centuries.

There are several fan sites devoted to him, one is at http://msmoo.simplenet.com/regehr/. I've attached a picture of what he looked like back in the '80s (duncan_regher2.jpg). Or was it the other picture of him (attached - duncan_regher1.jpg) that she was attracted to? ;-)

As for Andrys really being Tarrant, I'd have to agree that in some ways it certainly makes more sense. Let's see the choice GT had to make:

1. Give up my identity entirely, be powerless with no name or title or lands or power. Basically starting out all over again. Let Andrys have everything, just give it to him as an "I love you" gift.

2. Kill Andrys (hey, he can make more kids now), get the (beautiful) girl, keep his lands/money/power and title - in essence retire in style.

Hmm. What would you choose?

And for those who don't think GT could take Andrys down, remember that GT has been a swordfighter for hundreds of years, and a fighter. Andrys is just a playboy. My money is on the sorcerer.

And how does this explain the kid that Damian sees? Why it's Karril of course. He lives for pleasure, and Damien is just to damn depressed (yuk!). So why not take a few minutes of time and make Damien think GT is really alive in some fashion? Who does it harm? Damien gets out of his funk and Karril has yet one more happy customer.

Not sure what ya'll think, but I'd agree that this seems more in line with the character's past behavior than the other explanation.

You realize of course that CSF could bring up some tidbits not mentioned in the novels that we were supposed to have thought of (but didn't) and trounce us both. =:0

He's evil looking enough when he wants to be, but not ...... beautific enough.

I like your theory.

Importance: High

I had a theory on the new body....which I wrote to this site about last month, but got very little reply : ( and now I can't find the fantastic verbage I used to explain/justify it!! Anyway, I contend that Gerald is the one that survived the meeting with Andrys and took Andrys place (remember...I'm just using my imagination!::grins:::......there were, after all, only two men in the keep! Descriptions abound of the "changes" in andrys after the encounter, GT and Narilka did have "feelings" for each other, Karril (Gerald's friend) attends the wedding...when did Andrys ever meet him? I had much more coherent thoughts last time...bummer....what do you think?

Another thought...I was watching some old movies this weekend...anyone else thing that Alan Rickman (Hans Gruber in "Die Hard", the Sheriff of Nottingham in Costners "Robin Hood") would be the PERFECT GT???

Ok,ok. I was just being in lurkdom to get the feel of what everyone was saying and I really didn't want to press C.S. if she didn't want gas poured on the flame.

Keeping GT "alive" always, he hangs on my walls, I have Whelan's prints.:-)

As for a prequel I also would love one. Particularly about GT's fall; I kept reading the prologue over again every time his fall was mentioned.

A few of the questions I have about the ending of the series. Alot of them deal with GT's new perimeters. Such as what are they exactly? If we go by what he told Damien as how he survived and got a new body. Where did this new body come from? Did the fae create it, did his old body metamorphosis into the new one, or was it someone else's body? Now that he is a part of the living world again (assuming he is truly human) and the fae can't be Worked without putting your life on the line, will he age like everyone else? And how will he is planning on cheating death again if he does age?

Now let's all hope that Erna remembers what it tried to do to the Rakh and doesn't repeat the destruction of species as it advances technologically. That could be a new adventure, but we won't go there. :-))

Ok, I could keep going, but I'll start with these.
